What Are You Filled With?
John 2:5-11
“His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.”
Jesus told His disciples that He only said what He heard His Father say and did only what He saw His Father doing. His Father, of course, is God the Father. So Jesus wasn’t using His natural abilities of hearing and seeing. Although He saw with His natural eyes, empty stone water jars, He ‘saw’ with His spiritual eyes something that made Him tells the servants to fill the jars with water and take a sample of it to the Master of Ceremnoies. Which they did and it had been transformed into mature wine.
Have you ever wondered what did Jesus ‘see’ that made Him do this? Of course we will never actually know, but I wonder if maybe He remembered and pictured that account when a widow asked Elisha for help because her sons were about to be taken into slavery to pay off her debt. Elisha told her to get her sons to go out into the village and fetch as many stone jars as possible and when they did so, he told her to close the door behind her and her sons and pour the little handful of olive oil that she had, into the first jar. The oil did not stop pouring out until every jar was full.
Elisha then instructed the widow to sell the oli, pay off her debt and then she and her sons could live off the rest. In the Mediterranean countries, still to this day, if you have olive trees on your property, you can harvest them once maturered, take them to an Olive Oil merchant who will crush them and draw out the oil. Then they will test the oil to discover its quality and pay you accordingly. Some homes have their own Olive Oil press and can reduce the Olives to oil and then sell the oil to the merchant, who will once again test the oil for its quality.
Could you imagine the reaction of the merchant who received the widows oil and tested it. This oil would be the very best of the very best oil, because the Lord only gives us the very best.
When Jesus transformed the water, He did not change it into just wine, but the Greek wording implies he defied the ageing process and changed the water into ‘mature’ wine, that’s why the MC declared it to be the better and best wine.
These two occassions teach us that the Lord will fill any and every vessel with the very best He offers. What matters is not the vessel, the jars, but who fills them. Jesus took jars set aside for a religious purpose, yet the widow took jars from across her town or village, not specifically ones reserved for religious purposes.
The Holy Spirit filled Jesus and we see the miracles, the signs and wonders pouring through Him. But then the Holy Spirit filled everyone in the Upper Room and we see the same things flowing through them as recorded in the Book of Acts. Paul was filled with the Spirit and look at the miracles that took place through his ministry. History records many individual such as A B Simpson, Mary Woodworth Etter, John Alexander Dowie, John G Lake, Kathryn Kulman, Smith Wigglesworth who all had miracles and healings in their ministry. This shows clearly it is not the pot that matters, but what they are fill3d with and who has filled them.

After being born again the greatest thing for you would to be filled with the Holy Spirit. There is nothing greater the Father can give you is His own Spirit who will do in and through you what He has done through so many, including Jesus.
