My New Identity

Memory Verse

“… that you put on the new man which was created according to God,

in true righteousness and holiness.”

(Ephesians 4:22)

The New Testament letters were written by the early apostles to communicate the true gospel of Jesus to combat the false teachings that were being spread. The letters were duplicated and circulated so Christians everywhere could know for themselves, the true teaching of the Gospel. This is our source for knowing our new identity in Christ.

Since the Bible was first published in 1454-5, it is estimated that 7 billion copies have been printed over the centuries, with up to 80 million printed each year presently. While there are countries where believers cannot get a Bible or read one in their own language, billions can now obtain not only one but multiple versions. Despite that, many Christians are not aware of who they truly are in Christ because religious traditional teaching has not been clear about their true identity.

The following words from the New Testament letters, reveal your new identity in Christ. Don't just scan-read them, but meditate on them, believe them and you will see that the Bible says you already are this new man in Christ.

Begin today’s study by confessing the following statement over your life.

I am what the Bible says I am

I can be what the Bible says I can be

I can do what the Bible says I can do

I have what the Bible says I have

I can give what the Bible says I can give

I can receive what the Bible says I can receive

I can go where the Bible says I can go

I can say what the Bible says I can say

Therefore,

I am saved, healed, restored

I am blessed with every blessing in Christ

I am prosperous and anointed to preach the Gospel

with signs and wonders following me

All the works of my hands are blessed

No weapon formed against me can ever prosper

because I am an overcomer in Christ

Greater is He that is in me than He that is in the world

I am satan’s personal nightmare

I am a success

I am a winner

Hallelujah!

Question: How did you feel as you made these statements about you?

Possible answers:

• I was filled with faith.

• I was fearful to say some of it.

• I don’t believe this about me.

• I was afraid to say it in case I provoked Satan to attack me.

Over the years, when this faith statement has been given to believers across the world, it has typically evoked these responses, which reveal what you believe about who you are in Christ.

Yet, each statement is directly related to verses in the New Testament. Some declared directly by Jesus. If the statements are correctly aligned with the New Testament, then they must be true.

Go back to the statement list and put a tick alongside each one that you believe to be true about who you are in Christ. Now make a list of the statements you either don’t believe, or struggle to believe about your identity in Christ, then pray over them asking the Lord to show you if they are true. The Holy Spirit will answer your prayer, because Jesus said:

John 16:13

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; …”

Example: If you had been wearing a coat for many years that was totally worn out and you were given a brand new one, you wouldn’t put on the new coat over the old one. You would discard the old one and put on the new one. This is precisely how every believer needs to respond when the New Testament instructs the believer to:

“… put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, …” (Romans 13:14)

The flesh is the ‘old man,’ the man of sin nature. You were born with that nature, but if you have truly accepted Christ as your Saviour, then you are born again and are now a new creation. Look now at what the New Testament says about the new creation you now are.

I Am a New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17-18

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, …”

Galatians 2:20

“… it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; …”

I Am Saved

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

I Am Forgiven

1 John 2:12

“I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.”

I Am Guilt Free

Romans 8:1

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, …”

I Am Delivered and Redeemed

Colossians 1:13

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,”

I Am Cleansed from Sin

1 John 1:7

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

I Am Freed from Sin and Death

Romans 8:2

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

I Am Healed

1 Peter 2:24

“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

I Am Made Complete

Colossians 2:9-10

“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, Who is the head of all principality and power.”

I Am Accepted

Ephesians 1:5-6

“having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”

I Am Reconciled to Father

2 Corinthians 5:18

“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, …”

I Am His Son

Galatians 3:26

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

I Am a Joint Heir with Christ

Romans 8:16-17

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, …”

I Am More than a Conquerer

Romans 8:37

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

I Am Eternally Loved

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I Am Provided For

Philippians 4:19

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

I Am Righteous

Ephesians 4:23-24

“and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

I Am Holy

1 Corinthians 3:17

“… For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”

I Am Anointed

1 John 2:27

“But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, …”

I Am an Ambassador

2 Corinthians 5:20

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, …”

I Am an Overcomer

1 John 5:4-5

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

I Am Blessed

Ephesians 1:3

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,”

I Am a King

Revelation 5:9-10

I Am a Citizen of Heaven

I Am a Royal Priest

I Am the Temple of God

1 Corinthians 3:16

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

I Am Sanctified

1 Corinthians 1:2

“To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints …”

I Am His Light in this World

Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
